Tip of the Week!

Stay on the perimeter when shopping at the grocery store.

Think about the layout of the grocery store like a map.  The destination is the checkout stand and the goal is to have as many nutrient dense, healthful, whole foods as possible.  The strategy: stay on the perimeter

The outer walls of the grocery store will provide you with the most real food you can purchase.  You will find fruits and vegetables, raw meat including poultry and fish, and dairy.  If you stick to the perimeter, you will most likely leave the store with a cart full of goodness.  The center of the store is where the processed, preserved, and fake food is found.  Stay away from these things as much as you possibly can!

The middle section of the store is the part on the map that has the skull and crossbones on it…you don’t want to go there, people might die :).

So remember, to make it to the finish line with healthy purchases and a cart full of great food, keep to the outer walls and avoid the middle.  Have a great week and let me know how your grocery shopping goes!

You are soooo right. I am going to the dear old grocery store in the A.M. soooo I will do my best to stick to the perimeter, yet my family needs me to go in for ice cream, and tortilla chips, I hope that’s all. Love, M.
