Homemade Apple Chips

I’m always looking for healthy easy snacks and this one is as good as it gets.  These sweet and salty Apple Chips are all natural and so simple!

This recipe is so easy!  All you need is:
1.  Salt to taste after baking.
2.   Apples.  Any kind will work, but I prefer Gala.
You will also need a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper for baking.

Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees.  Next, simply wash and thinly slice your apples.  You want them to be as thin as you can get them.  Using a mandolin or food processor might help with this process, but I prefer to simply slice them using a knife…I’m not a fan of appliances :).

Place apple slices on to a parchment paper cookie sheet.  If you do not have parchment paper, spray your cookie sheet with non-stick spray.  Put cookie sheet into the 200 degree oven for one hour.  Check the apples halfway through and flip them if necessary.

After apples are cooked, they will be brownish and dry-looking, remove them from the oven and sprinkle lightly with salt on both sides.  Allow to cool for 30-45 minutes and enjoy!  You can store these in an airtight container or ziplock bag for up to five days, but they are so good I doubt they will last that long in your cupboard.

I hope you enjoy these amazing and healthy Apple Chips!  They are crispy just like a chip without the additives and guilt :).

The finished product!

Green Tea Toner

I’ve been on a mission to find a new natural toner and have had no luck.  All of the toners that claim to be organic or natural have loads of alcohol in them which leads to dry skin and unnecessary chemicals on your face and body.  So, I decided to make my own using all natural ingredients.  I’ve been using this toner for a couple of weeks now and I love it.  Once again, it is super simple and inexpensive!  I vloged it or you can simply read the steps below 🙂

Here’s what you need and why:

Lemon Juice is full of natural alpha and beta hydroxy acids.  These acids will work to remove dead skin cells from your face and body leaving a brighter, more glowy skin texture, look, and feel.  Aloe Vera Gel is an all natural moisturizer.  It will leave your skin soft and supple while relieving dryness.  It also calms skin irritations, including inflammation, redness, and of course sun burn.  Green Tea contains EGCG which reactivates dying cells making your skin look younger.  Green Tea also rids your skin cells of free radicals which can make your skin look tired and dull.

Here’s what you do:
1.  Steep cup of green tea using a green tea bag and set aside.  Let tea steep for 1-2 minutes.
2.  Juice one fresh lemon removing seeds and extra pulp.
3.  Put 1 tbsp. of aloe vera gel into the bottom of a bottle.
4.  Pour lemon juice into bottle over aloe.
5.  Pour steeped green tea to fill the remainder of the bottle.
6.  Shake well and enjoy!

Use this toner after you wash your face morning and night.  Just simply apply with a cotton ball or cotton round.  *NOTE*  Because this is an all natural product without chemicals, you will need to shake the bottle before applying it to your in order to mix all of the aloe and lemon.

Grilled Honey Shrimp

I love to cook and create new recipes to share with family and friends.  This Grilled Honey Shrimp recipe is perfect for warm weather.  I have used a grill outside, or in this case, I’m using a grill pan on the stove top…either way, this dish is delish!  The honey adds a nice sweetness to the shrimp and the red chili pepper flakes add just enough heat to keep things interesting.  These shrimp are perfect on a salad or as the main course with fresh fruit and veggies.  It is super easy and super fast, cooking time is less than 5 minutes!  I hope you enjoy.

Grilled Honey Shrimp

What you need:
One pound of raw, cleaned shrimp
Honey
1 tablespoon Red Chili Pepper Flakes
1 tablespoon Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
Skewers

Get Started!
In a bowl, stir together  Raw Shrimp, 1 tablespoon Red Chili Pepper Flakes, 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil and a pinch of Salt and Pepper.  Simply stir so that all the shrimp are coated with all of the seasonings.  If you like a more mild flavor, eliminate the chili pepper flakes, or only add half the amount :).

Next…
Thread the raw shrimp onto skewers.  I use metal skewers because you can wash and reuse them.  If you are using bamboo skewers, be sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes before you use them so they don’t burn on the hot stove and ruin your dinner!  1 pound of shrimp will make about 8-10 skewers.

Get Cooking!
Heat a grill pan on high for several minutes before placing skewered shrimp on pan.  Cook for 1 minute.  After 1 minute drizzle honey over each skewer and cook for an additional minute.  The shrimp will begin to change from gray to pink.  Flip shrimp and repeat, cook for 1 minute, drizzle with honey, cook for an additional 1 minute.  And that, my friend, is it!

Dig In!
That is all it takes to make this delicious and tasty recipe.  I told you it was quick and easy!  I would pair this with a fresh green salad for a light lunch, or make it the main course by adding veggies, fruit and bread.  No matter how you serve it, you will love it!

Oh, Honey…Tighten Up! Honey Mask

As always, I have a vlog or, if you prefer to read, I have included text and pictures below.  Thanks for stopping by :).

I am always on the lookout for fun and easy beauty treatments and this awesome mask is the easiest I have ever come across.  It only has one ingredient: honey!  I know that all of you have honey in your kitchen cupboard and if for some reason you don’t, you can pick it up at the grocery store for around $3.  Honey is an amazing natural sweetner.  I like to put honey on my grapefruit, on cooked shrimp and salmon (recipes coming soon) and in tea and any other food that needs a little sweetner added.  Honey is a single ingredient, all natural product, so I love it.  Honey as a beauty treatment is a new concept to me.  I’ve done a little research and this is what I have found so far.

  • It’s a natural humectant, which means it seals in moisture.
  • Honey tightens pores in the skin.
  • It is one of natures best antibacterials.
  • It calms acne and breakouts.
  • Honey brightens and energizes the skin.
  • And it can, over time, lighten and eliminate scars.

So, now that we have all the benefits down, let’s get started on this super easy mask…
bee ready to bee amazed! (hehe).
Oh, Honey…Tighten Up!
(I love this name, and I thought of it all by myself!)

Grab any old honey that you have in your kitchen cupboard.  If you don’t have any honey at home and need to purchase, I would go for organic honey.  It costs the same as regular honey and is more “natural”.   This mask is so easy, you might think it’s too good to be true

Step 1:  Wash and pat dry your face.

Step 2:  Put a few tablespoons of honey onto your finger tips.

Step 3:  Rub the honey onto your face using an upward motion.  Ensure that you are spreading a thin film on your entire face.  (Please forgive me, I have no makeup on!).  Avoid your eye area, honey is your eyes is a sticky situation!  If you get any in your mouth, no worries, its like a built in snack!

Step 4:  Kick up your feet and relax for 15 minutes!

Step 5:  Rinse off with warm water and follow with a mild facial cleaner to remove all of the honey.

Step 6:  Enjoy you newly tightened skin and rave to your friends about the natural beauty benefits of honey:)!

Make Your Own Coconut Citrus Sugar Scrub

It’s summer and it’s HOT  outside making it  the perfect time to mix up an at home exfoliant for your skin.  Today I am going to show you how to make my famous Coconut Citrus Sugar Scrub!

This scrub is super easy, very fast, and most importantly is made out of all natural ingredients that you can find in your own home! It also smells amazing! This scrub is great to use on your whole body, but my favorite way to use it is on my face.  Below you will find step-by-step instructions and some goofy pictures so you can get more of a visual idea.  As I get more familiar with my new computer I will upload videos, but for now, you get pictures of each product and each step :).

What you will need:

Coconut Oil

Sugar

Citrus Juice (lemon or lime)

These ingredients are simple and healthy.  Coconut oil is an all natural oil that moisturizes and softens skin.  There are SO many benefits of coconut oil, but for this specific post we are using its skin softening and moisturizing properties.  You can find coconut oil at your local grocery store near the olive oil and other oils in the cooking section.  That’s right, you can also cook with coconut oil (more to come on that in future blogs).  A 12 oz. jar should cost you around $6-$8.  You can also find coconut oil at my favorite website www.vitacost.com.  The gigantic jar I have cost $19 and was shipped right to my door for free!  Make sure when you are buying coconut oil, that the label says “organic”, “pure”, “USDA Certified Organic”, and “Extra Virgin”.  The Sugar in this scrub will act as our exfoliant.  The sugar will buff off any dead skin cells leaving your skin looking and feeling dewy and fresh.  It is important to exfoliate your face and body 2-3 times a week.  Citrus Juice is full of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (ADA) and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA).  These acids will work as a mini-peel, sloughing off dead skin cells and treating the skin to help lighten and overtime remove, age spots, freckles, dry patches, and fine lines and wrinkles.

LETS GET STARTED!

First Step:  Add 1/8 of a cup of coconut oil to a small mixing bowl.

Step Two:  Add 1/8 of a cup of citrus juice (either lemon or lime, fresh or bottled) to mixing bowl with coconut oil.

Step Three:  Add 1/2 cup of sugar to mixing bowl with oil and juice.

Step Four:  Mix well with a spoon.

Step Five:  Allow mixture to set for 5 minutes.  After 5 minutes the mixture will thicken up and should be the consistency of wet sand.

Step Six:  The scrub is ready to use!  Put a small amount in your hand and rub in a circular motion on a clean face.  Do this for 2-5 minutes and make sure to scrub over your sink!  The sugar has a tendency to fall off of your face and leave a tiny mess.  When you are all scrubbed, rinse your face with warm water and pat dry.  I promise you will have the softest, healthiest looking skin.  You can do this on your entire body too.  I make extra scrub and store it in an air tight container and leave it in my shower for use on my body…it is especially great for feet!

Now go make some Coconut Citrus Sugar Scrub and enjoy the benefits of naturally beautiful skin!
